Hello Everyone, and Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. This week had ups and downs, but we made it to the other side. We definitely caught the head lice right in time, but please continue to check this weekend. I do think we are in the clear. We are still in flu/RSV season, and other viruses have been making the rounds. Please do keep an eye out for cold-like symptoms like fever, cough, runny nose (green mucus), wheezing/difficulty breathing, and lethargy. If they are presenting 2 or more symptoms, stay home until symptoms subside or are cleared by a physician to attend school. We just want to keep the children and the teachers healthy as always, and the teachers are cleaning and sanitizing to help keep everyone healthy as well! Thank you to the parents who have reached out interested in coming in to talk with preschoolers and toddlers. So far, we have Portugal and Ireland reach out and set dates to come in. Today we had M. (H. and O.’s mom) come in and talk with both preschool classrooms and toddler B. Next week we have J. (B.’s mom) coming in to talk about Ireland. Again, if any families have been to France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Germany, or Spain! We would like for you to visit and chat with Toddlers or Preschoolers. Feel welcome to email me at ecam.director@jamirrdc.com Classroom Highlights: Infants: This week we had fun painting the Ireland flag, the UK, and a clover painting. We also had lots of fun playing with a water pea sensory, practicing sign language along with practicing our colores, and shapes. The kids have been LOVING reading lately so we will definitely be doing more reading with them. Toddlers: This week toddler A painted the Ireland flag with bubble wrap and a basketball! We celebrated Ms Jessica’s birthday and read all about Ireland. The toddlers planted shamrocks and created Irish soda bread dough! Sometimes we played with green slime which got very sticky! The toddler a students have been doing so well with matching colors during circle time. We’ve incorporated our board during circle time more. The students have been improving on recognizing shapes and even name each other. Even us teachers if we’re lucky! Overall, Toddler A had an active, and creative week! Preschool 527: This week we’ve had fun introducing Europe with a bread basket that has baguettes, pretzels, croissants, and hot cross buns, a three-part card work with images from Italy, and a tray full of famous European paintings. One of the Italian images was Mount Vesuvius so we made our own volcano with baking soda and vinegar! It was fun to see it explode and learn that when the baking soda is gone the vinegar won’t do anything. We’re excited to have some new artwork in the classroom, including a new world map, so we can better visualize the places we learn about. We also got a new practical life work to practice dressing ourselves with buttons, buckles, laces, and a zipper. Today we had one of our parents, M., come to talk to us about Portugal and gave us a very yummy pastry! Our class now wants to go to Portugal to ride the trolleys. We look forward to next week’s activities! PreK 580: This week we worked hard on some new works spread around the classroom. On Monday we were introduced to our new cultural study and started our studies in England where we feel in love with Big Ben and “planned” a trip there. We all became obsessed with volcanoes this week and studied hard to learn the ins and outs of how they are formed, what is inside them, and how they erupt. We watched a few National Geographic videos that showed different eruptions and Yellowstone, one of the biggest super volcanoes in the WORLD! We enjoyed watching specific videos of Yellowstone and its different landscape, geysers, and hot spots. To close out our volcanic research we of course had to make one of our own. In what a few described as “boring” we created our own volcano and watched it erupt. A few of us were expecting an explosion but…for some odd reason we just couldn’t get that to happen with out homemade experiment. We have found our love for math again with three new works for greater than vs. less than, finding trends on the hundreds board and working with geo solids. Friday’s are usually spent working with fun building materials but today we got an awesome surprise from M., H. and O.’s mom, who came and shared pictures and information about Portugal with us. We loved her presentation and were super excited to share the three sentences that we know how to say in Portuguese. We are excited to share the delicious Portuguese treat in the afternoon. We also learned how to play Tenzi this week, an intense speed game with dice. We had a super fun week and are even more excited to learn about Ireland next week and try to trap a leprechaun on Friday! Have a lovely weekend we will see you all on Monday! With lots of love,Cole & Pamela |
